The most obvious application of this card would be to mix it with red, and deal petty mass-damage, having the same effect as a Wrath of God, but capable of being re-dealt. However, it might be used with a force of tokens, as well. Sticking to black, you might generate a force of zombies, who could relentlessly overrun an enemy base more easily, with the aid of this card. Although the card is not Standard, it would certainly be potent with Rakdos devils, or the like, who deal a single damage upon death to any target. The problem with using this sort of omnipotent combination (aside from being a problem itself), is that control decks don't use creatures. Against a deck that does rely on creatures, it would be too powerful. Against creature-less control decks, it serves no purpose. It is certainly an extreme card, and the only way to deal with it is to keep enchantment destruction on the side. So, if you are using green, white, or both, and this card is in the format, ALWAYS remember enchantment destruction on the side. Blue is another option - Keep a few negate on the side. Black itself might be able to snag it with discard, and the only color that is truly impotent against Death Pits would be red. So! Think twice before playing mono-red, for that reason. It is almost always advisable to work in more than one color. |
