So! Given that you can only use cards with one mana symbol (per color) in your deck, to best utilize this card, we'll be looking at all double-colored cards, and especially, the triple-colored and prismatic cards. There's not a huge amount of these such cards in the game right now, but I'll want to examine them all for the greatest possible effect when using this companion. Be right back... Ok, what I found is that utilizing this card properly would be a bit cumbersome. The thing about it is, that you would want to rely on it as a mana source, but simultaneously protecting it and maximizing its effect would be a gamble, at best. Your best bet might be to set it up with Golos, Tireless Pilgrim (on a strong base of mana-grabbing cards), and use it to pay the activation cost. Then, you would be free to pack your deck with a solid amount of over-powered cards to dominate the board. I've seen things like this done, but personally, I don't find it very attractive. It can win some of the time, but getting to "God-mode" will definitely take more time than a lot of "aggro" style decks would allow. My initial thought was to try and utilize the companion to pay for as much color as possible, but I honestly don't see it working with the current set of cards, at least in Magic Arena. There are big, prismatic creatures (such as Fusion Elemental) that could be played like a 0-cost, with this companion, but achieving that boost, as I said, would be cumbersome. It may be relevant at some point in the future, but for now, I'm setting it aside. I felt the investigation would be a waste of time. |
