Here's one of the oldest cards in the game, still around with good

reason. Big fliers are the most reliable source of damage in the game,

and this one gives you a liberal limitation, depending on your land setup.

For that reason, this may be an essential component of any mono-black

deck, but you may also look at newer inventions to enhance

Nightmare's potential. The golgari "undergrowth" decks often rely on

recovering lands from your graveyard, so mix it up with green, and find

spells with suitable abilities. Another card, from the new set, "m20",

that will work well with this ploy is Dread Presence. Since you're

already relying on swamps for Nightmare's power (Yes, and

toughness), use Dread Presence in conjunction to deal out damage and

draw cards, over and over. While using green will somewhat

compromise Nightmare's damaging capabilities, it is actually superior to

make your deck more versatile, and pull a more crafty victory. I often

find that I am the underdog when I play with one of my creative

designs, but frequently am able to pull an upset, while maintaining a

sense of control through more subtle manipulations. It doesn't matter if

you do any over-kill damage, and trying to rely on heavy damage is less

certain than learning to control a wide-variety of situations.
