You'll see the mystery of this one immediately - Why would I sacrifice one of my essential artifacts just to draw a single card? It relies on token creation, which has come recently in the form of thopters and treasure tokens, and the combination can be very powerful. Draw is the most essential function in the game. Without a constant supply of cards, many games will be lost. The key is to not lose the essential permanents that are defending you, so that each card you draw might allow you to capitalize on the current situation. This card would be easy to lose - It is a very small creature, easily targeted for destruction, especially from red. It might be a component of a counter-spell deck, which defends against in-coming instants and sorceries, while drawing more ammo. The set-up will still be fragile, being somewhat difficult to achieve and maintain, but would be very much unbeatable with crafty decision-making. It might also fuel an artifact creature deck, utilizing artifacts which control non-creature spells (such as Defense Grid), and drawing out an endless force. It was made available again in the recent Dominaria set, and so will be legal for play in the extended format for a good while. |
